Fairfield, Connecticut (WTNH) - A car fire shut down a section of Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield for a couple of hours Thursday morning.

It happened around 5am near Hemlock Road.

Officials say Ricardo Beggs of Brooklyn, New York crashed his Corolla into a tree. He was able to escape the burning car with minor injuries and did not seek medical treatment.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire and contain hazardous runoff from entering a nearby reservoir.

The road was reopened around 7am.
