Father, daughter relationship not quiet

BETHEL, Conn. (WTNH) -- DNA tests proved that a father and daughter are the parents of a 2-year-old boy and neighbors and people around town say they were not quiet about the relationship.

"They're very good to the baby from what we see," a neighbor said.
  
A neighbor was nearly brought to tears as she thinks about the bizarre situation across the street.

It's not everyday the same man is a father and a grandfather to the same child but 46-year-old George Sayers Jr. is. He fathered his 23-year-old daughter Tiffany Hartford's 2-year-old boy.

"You knew while she was pregnant that he was the father," News 8's Logan asked.

The neighbor nodded.

"Did they look like a couple," News 8's Logan asked.

"Yeah," the neighbor said.

Attorney Antonio Yorio says this is not the first time a father and daughter in Connecticut have been involved in a sexual relationship and have been punished.

In 2010, Yorio says a father was involved with his 22-year-old daughter sexually. He was charged, but she wasn't.

Many question if 23-year-old Hartford is a victim. Yorio says the law states she was involved in criminal activity.

"It is prohibited for individuals to have sex with his child, his parent, his grandparent, step child or his grandchildren," Yorio said.
 
Yorio says the only way Hartford would be off the hook is if it was proven she didn't consent but there are still questions about how long this relationship has gone on.

It was brought to light in February by Hartford's ex-girlfriend, then 16 or 17, who says she didn't give Sayers permission to sell pornographic videos and pictures of the women. 

"It's unclear whether or not the law will reach its objective. It's just a sad case," Yorio said.

Yorio says Hartford could spend up to 5 years in prison and Sayers up to 30 if it's proven that the relationship went on when his daughter was under 16.

They'll be back in court later this month.

The 2-year-old is in state custody.
