Mulch pile burning at Newtown landfill

Newtown, Conn. (WTNH) -- A fire in a mulch pile at the Newtown landfill continues to burn but has been brought under control. 

According to Newtown Police one fire company remains on scene hosing down the approximately 5000 square foot pile of mulch.  

Firefighters from the surrounding communities of  Southbury, Oxford, Bethel & Brookfield, who had been called in to man fire houses in Newtown, have now been dismissed. 

According to police there are no  houses in danger and there are no injuries.
