Fire breaks out at Southport restaurant

SOUTHPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- Firefighters battled a fire at a Southport restaurant Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out at S&S Dugout Restaurant, located at 3449 Post Road.

Upon arrival, emergency responders were able to contain the fire to the grill area in the kitchen.

Search and rescue efforts were then put in place, during which time four residents were evacuated from the second floor.

Fire officials said occupants were evaluated and then they were able to return to their apartments after the rooms were properly ventilated.

The restaurant, was closed temporarily for cleaning and restoration, but was anticipated to be open later in the day.
