Monroe, Conn. (WTNH) - A police officer was taken to the hospital after a house fire in Monroe Sunday night.

The fire at 11 Lima Drive was called in around 9:15 p.m.

"Totally destroyed house at this point," Monroe Fire Marshal Bill Davin said.

The officer, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation.

The fire started in the back of the ranch-style home. "As of right now the cause is still under investigation," Davin said.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire.
