BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH)-- There was a fire at a boarded up home in Bridgeport on Saturday night.
Firefighters say they arrived to heavy fire visible in the basement, first floor and extending through the walls to the upper floors, at 247 Colorado Avenue.
Because most of the windows and doors were boarded up, the fire was very risky.
"This fire was very, very difficult to fight," said Assistant Fire Chief Dominick Carfi. "Entry was difficult and dangerous. We had to remove boards to ensure firefighters had a safe route of exit."
Firefighters started with an interior attack on the fire, but were called out of the house for their own safety. After water was streamed in from the outside to diminish the fire, firefighters went back in.
"Our personnel did an outstanding job in very adverse conditions," Carfi said.
One fire captain was treated and released from the hospital for a hand injury.
The fire is being deemed as suspicious because utilities to the house were cut off.The investigation is in its early stages and there's no determination if this fire is connected to any of the December 24th fires in Bridgeport.
