Bridgeport, Conn. (WTNH) - About a dozen residents of Bridgeport are being sheltered tonight outside their homes because of a fire.

The blaze broke out at a home on Bunnell Street and Connecticut Avenue late Monday afternoon. Flames jumped to the building next door.

No one was hurt.

"When I came out the front door there was smoke pouring out the door and from the second floor out on the side and by the time I realized there was a fire I turned around and the flames had come down the stairs and I couldn't get back into my house," said victim Kelly Ortiz.

One dog and a cat were killed in the fire.

No word yet on a cause.
