BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- Some Bridgeport firefighters are getting some valuable training this week that could wind up saving their lives.
Thanks to a $45,000 grant from the federal government, 17 Bridgeport firefighters attended a Fire Ground Survival Training seminar this summer.
Now they are back home to teach their fellow firefighters what they learned.
The idea is to keep firefighters safe when things go wrong.
"Wire entanglement, we have to escape out of windows, how to escape out of very small areas, confined space areas, how to take off your mask in darkness you can't see anything, crawl through a small spot then put it back on on his way out," explained Bridgeport Fire Chief Brian Rooney.
The survival course is half in the classroom and half hands-on training.
