FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Firefighters battled a blaze in Fairfield early Monday morning.
Just before 4 a.m. several 911 calls were made reporting a possible house or truck fire that was visible from I-95, in the area of Commerce Dr. and Webster Rd.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw fire visible in a collection truck, next to a three-story wood frame home and a large fully loaded dumpster.
"The fire was largely knocked down in a matter of minutes thanks to early notification by good Samaritans and an aggressive attack by the first in company which had been returning from another call" when the fire was reported, according to Incident Commander Chris Tracy.
Tracy also said, "early notification by passing motorists, immediate evacuation by building occupants, and the prompt and professional actions of Fairfield's firefighters averted what could have been a tragedy."
The scene was cleared in just over an hour.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
