Firefighters rescue dog from ice

WESTPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- Firefighters rescued a dog that had fallen through the ice on a pond in Westport Wednesday morning.

The incident happened just before 10:30 a.m., in the area of 18 Hales Road.

The Westport Fire Department donned their cold water suits and went out to rescue the dog while tethered to a rope from shore.

Fire officials said the rescue was successful and the dog was taken to a veterinarian for evaluation.
