WESTPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- A 62-year old male participating in a triathlon Sunday morning was pulled from the water and had to be taken to the hospital.

DEEP officials say the man, from Wallingford, became distressed while swimming during a triathlon at Sherwood Island State Park. A nearby lifeguard in a kayak quickly responded and brought the man to shore.

He was taken by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital, but there is no word on his condition.
