Man killed in 'tragic accident'

STAMFORD, Conn. (Stamford Advocate) -- A former Stamford High School football player died Thursday night after accidentally shooting himself in the head in a Stillwater Road residence, police said Friday.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday, the man, 22-year-old Marcus Dixon, had taken the magazine out of his .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol and apparently thought the gun was empty, Lt. Diedrich Hohn said.

One round was still in the chamber and he shot himself, Hohn said.
