FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- It was a bittersweet ceremony in Fairfield Monday when a deceased Vietnam War veteran's family accepted several service medals in his honor.
Congressman Jim Himes presented Sgt. Daniel Gammon's sister with 15 service medals.
Gammon was a Vietnam vet who struggled with post traumatic stress disorder. He took his own life in 2006.
The family says getting the medals will give them some closure.
"I was one of the last people to talk to my brother before he committed suicide," said Sherry Miro, veteran's sister, "and to be able to see what he's accomplished, and more importantly to be able to read what he has accomplished it means everything to me."
The family was also given a copy of his military service records which describe how he earned each medal.
Take a look at some of the Report It photos we received in November, 2012.
