New Canaan man killed in rock slide

NEW CANAAN, Conn. (Stamford Advocate) -- A 24-year-old New Canaan man was killed in a rock slide Saturday, Summit County Police in Colorado have confirmed.

Rob Jansen died from injuries sustained in the slide near Hagerman Peak, about 11 miles from Aspen, Colo.

The Pitkin County sheriff's office received a call at 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, according to a press release. Rescuers were unable to reach Jansen because of a separate search and rescue effort in nearby South Maroon. Based on Jansen's location, the Gunnison County sheriff's office requested Mountain Rescue Aspen (MRA) to perform the recovery.
