Fairfield (AP) - A 42-year-old Connecticut firefighter is challenging a suspension for allegedly playing college football while on sick leave.

Fairfield firefighter Wayne Parks was suspended without pay for two days for insubordination last month by Fire Chief Richard Felner. Officials say he refused to answer questions about the issue.

Attorneys are trying to come up with an agreement to allow the University of New Haven to answer questions about Parks' hopes to make the football team.

At issue is whether Parks took part in football practices and team meetings when he was out on sick leave from his firefighter's job with a torn groin muscle.

The Fire Commission Thursday decided to put off its discussion of the issue at a future meeting.
