Mayor Lauretti re-elected in Shelton

Shelton (WTNH) - Republican Mayor Mark A. Lauretti has been re-elected to the town of Shelton.

Lauretti, 55, a Republican, was challenged by Democrat Chris Jones, 42, and Citizens United candidate Mark Widomski, 40.

This news comes during a time when the city is under a black cloud of federal corruption.

According to the New Haven Register, developer James Botti, who is behind several shopping plazas on Bridgeport Avenue, is accused of bribing Lauretti with cash and home improvements in order to get support for his projects.

Botti faces two trials, while Lauretti has not been charged with any wrongdoing and maintains his innocence.

He said he is asking voters to support him again based on his accomplishments.

Lauretti was first elected mayor in 1991 and pledged to make Shelton an affordable place to live with a high quality of life, and he said he has kept that pledge.

“All of our economic indicators show Shelton heading in the right direction. My record is one of proven leadership, fiscal responsibility, economic development, and planned, balanced growth,” he said the New Haven Register.
