Fatal accident closes Merritt Parkway

Trumbull (WTNH) - A three car accident on Route 15 resulted in a fatality, State Police say.

All lanes near exits 51-52 were closed for several hours after the accident which occurred shortly after 1 p.m, Monday.

Derek Smith, 26, of Trumbull was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Smith was traveling southbound at high speeds on the Merritt Parkway when he struck a car in front of him, rolling his vehicle and then ejecting him from his car into the northbound lanes.

A car traveling northbound then struck him.

The car that Smith struck from behind was driven by Aurel Iosif, 61, of Shelton who was transported to St. Vincent's for minor injuries.

The occupants of the car traveling northbound suffered no injuries.

The case is still under investigation.
