BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- The woman in court today is accused of pretending to be the aunt of one of the 6-year-old Newtown victims and taking money from donors saying she was raising money for the child's funeral fund.
37-year-old Nouel Alba of the Bronx appeared in federal court in Bridgeport today, facing a charge of lying to federal agents who were investigating her alleged fundraising fraud.
News 8 tried talking to Alba as she left court but she shoved us aside.
FBI agents say Alba falsely claimed she was the aunt of 6-year-old Noah Pozner who was killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. They say Alba ran a fraudulent fundraising scheme online where she asked for donations for the 6-year-old's funeral fund.
The Pozner family has said they do not know this woman. The U.S. attorney says Alba's arrest should "serve as a warning to anyone who attempts to profit from" the tragedy in Newtown.
