BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- A career training school that abruptly shut down, sending more than a thousand students in the state scrambling, saw a large drop in student aid this year, an education official said.
The amount of student aid that the Rhode Island-based Sawyer School received from the federal government dropped sharply before it closed. The school got just $2.3 million for the 2012-2013 school year, compared to about $7.4 million the year before.
That's a 68 percent drop.
The Butler Business School, which is owned by the same company, saw a drop from about $2.2 million to $716,000.
A U.S. Department of Education spokeswoman says the decline mirrored a drop in enrollment.
No word from the school on if the drop in federal aid had anything to do with their closing.
