BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- Standard Oil of Connecticut announces the results of their Pink Truck campaign, a year-long effort to raise awareness and funds for the local fight against breast cancer.
Their ambitious efforts included a custom painted pink oil truck, social media campaign, and daily trips to 50 Connecticut communities.
"Everybody has probably seen this truck coming down the neighborhood that they live in, and it gets everyone's attention for a great cause," said Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch. "We want women to get mammograms, do self breast examinations and stay ahead of the curve on breast cancer because it's a very beatable form of cancer, that eventually if we get it in the early stages. And certainly as Mayor of the state's largest city I couldn't be more pleased with the Friedman family doing what they're doing here to advance and help the Susan Komen for the Cure."
Last October, Standard Oil pledged $3 for every delivery the Pink Truck made for 12 months. Now a year later, the Pink Truck has completed over 7,000 deliveries raising $25,000. These funds will benefit the nonprofit Connecticut affiliate of Susan G Komen for the cure.
"Programs like these help support our mission. We were able to grant over a million dollars last year to local organizations including some right here in our area. The monies do stay right here local."
"Where everybody else is focusing on one month we said let's do something for the whole year and keep the awareness up throughout the year."
Look out for the Pink Truck as it continues to travel all across the state and visit Standard Oil's website for more information.
