Police swarm Darien train station

Darien, Conn. (WTNH) - It was a scary scene for passengers when their trip was halted so police could search their Metro-North train.

At least 30 Darien, State and MTA police swarmed the Darien train station just before noon as a Metro-North train headed for New York came to a stop.

Officers and K-9 units walked through the train, looking for Rocky Williams. Williams is wanted by police in connection with the shooting death of his estranged wife and another man in Hartford.

A video taken by someone on that train shows officers walking through the cars with their guns drawn as they looked Williams. He's wanted in connection with a double homicide that happened on Dec. 15, on Maple Avenue in Hartford.

News 8 spoke to one passenger who did not want her face shown on camera.

"Terrifying, I called my mom immediately and just wanted her to stay on the phone with me until I got off," said Lexie.

Passengers were kept inside the closed train for about 20 minutes as police conducted their search. Lexie was given no information as she sat on the train in fear.

"Yes, there was nothing over the radio that said what was going on, no warning of it," said Lexie.

"Unfortunately the train was really packed. A lot of people on their way to New York City this time of year ranging from small children, to entire families, to older people, and it's a shock for them to see that much of a police presence on the train," said Sgt. Jeremiah Marron, Darien Police Department.

After it was determined that Williams was not on the train, officers allowed passengers to get on and off the train. Police believe Williams is headed to Nevada or California.

Officers credit the fast response to the fact that there were already MTA officers on the scene at the train station because just across the street is Occupy Darien, so they've had extra officers on hand just in case anything happened.
