Poor sales force Trumbull to cancel Bolton concert

TRUMBULL, Conn. (AP) — Trumbull officials say poor ticket sales have forced the cancelation of a Michael Bolton concert, prompting a promise that the town will quit the concert business.

The Connecticut Post reports that First Selectman Tim Herbst says the town will incur $75,000 in cancellation fees. But he says staging the production would have cost $150,000 to $170,000.

The concert, which was scheduled for last Saturday, was canceled due to poor ticket sales. Herbst said about 700 to 1,000 tickets had been sold, though the town needed to sell 4,000 to 5,000 to break even.

The average ticket cost is $40.

Herbst said Bolton canceled at the town's urging.

The first selectman says the town should not be in the concert business and will in the future rely on a third party to stage such events.
