FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — A newly renovated service plaza along the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield is reopening.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said the northbound location is scheduled to restart at noon Friday, providing another source of gasoline and food to motorists in a region hit hard by Superstorm Sandy.
The service plaza in Fairfield on the southbound side remains under reconstruction and is scheduled to open within the next couple months.
Plans to close two other sites in Greenwich have been delayed until after Thanksgiving.
The state Department of Transportation owns 23 service plazas on the Merritt and Wilbur Cross Parkways and Interstates 95 and 395. They are being renovated and operated by Project Service LLC. All work is scheduled to be completed by 2015.
Each plaza will have full generator service.
