STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — Stamford is collecting more revenue and towing more cars in a drive to crack down on parking ticket scofflaws.
The city says it generated nearly $50,000 in fines and towed more than 70 vehicles since a city ordinance reducing the number of parking tickets from six to three that automatically calls for towing or immobilizing vehicles.
The local law took effect in May. The fines also increased.
The Stamford Advocate cites city records to report that since January the city's 10 parking enforcement officers have towed 104 scofflaw vehicles, bringing in $77,153 in revenue. In all of 2011, 85 cars were towed bringing in $79,581 in revenue.
Despite the increased towing and additional fines, many violators have yet to pay their fines.
