School closes abruptly, students upset

BRIDGEPORT, Conn.(WTNH) -- The Butler Business School in Bridgeport abruptly closed its doors over the winter break. News 8 peaked inside the locked school building and saw a sign welcoming students back in the New Year. You can see why students were so shocked when they heard the news.

"They're not picking up the phone, they're not telling us anything. Supposedly the director said we're going to letter but we haven't and I can't even get my transcripts," said Evelin Zapata a student at Butler Business School.

Zapata was 3 months away from earning her degree. Facing the very real possibility that she may never get that degree, or get back the money she put toward it, is too much for her to think about.

"I was studying so hard and I was going to work and studying on my job too for me to get anything done for her and I'm not going to get anything? That's sad. I thought in this country these things don't happen," said Zapata.

She was studying to be a medical assistant and she says she was doing it all to give her daughter a better life. Now she and many others might not get to see their hard work realized.

"It's a heartbreaking situation because a lot of us use Butler to succeed. A lot of us have kids that we want to better ourselves," said Orlanda Austin-Strong another student.

News 8's calls to the school went unanswered.

Butler students say this note is unacceptable. They want more answers so on Wednesday when classes were to resume after winter break they're all going to show up and demand answers and they say if they can't get any answers, they will to go to corporate headquarters to see what info they can get there.
