STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — Authorities say the New York firefighter who drowned after the boat he was operating in Stamford Harbor last summer slammed into a seawall had a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit.
The findings of a Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection investigation into the cause of the July 22 crash released Wednesday determined that 30-year-old Keith Morris had a blood-alcohol content of 0.25 percent. The legal limit in Connecticut is 0.08 percent.
Morris, a New Rochelle, N.Y., firefighter, was at the helm of the 27-foot boat with four passengers after a visit to a dockside restaurant.
The Stamford Advocate reports that the boat hit the seawall at 18 to 22 miles per hour.
Morris' body was found 12 hours later. An autopsy determined he drowned.
