NORWALK, Conn. (WTNH) -- The beach is beautiful and a pool certainly feels like a playground, but the water can be downright dangerous.

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children.

Rey Delgado admits bringing his son to Norwalk Beach even though four-year-old Ryan couldn't swim.

"Very concerned, yes," said Delgado, "because my wife and I know how to swim, but not very well."

Ryan and 60 other youngsters are now getting lessons at the YMCA thanks to scholarships from Stew Leonard Children's Charities.

The dairy store giant is announcing this charity is now putting its swim safety book for kids as a free APP .

Stew Leonard Jr. spoke to the children Wednesday, but what he didn't tell them is that he lost his own 20-month-old son in a drowning accident and since has been committed to making sure children learn how to swim.

Delgado is now feeling better about Summer and being by the water.

"Now he knows how to swim," said Delgado, "our only concern is now he's a little too fast for us, so we just have to keep him at arm/body length so we're safe."
