STAMFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A 14-year-old is dead and his brother is in critical condition after a dirt bike collision that happened Thursday afternoon.
Police were called to the 500 block of Long Ridge Road, just before 2 p.m., after an adjoining property owner reporter hearing cries for help.
Police said two dirt bikes collided off of the 500 block. The property is owned by the city and is a former leaf recycling facility that is unused and heavily overgrown with brush. Officials said access is blocked by concrete blocks.
The crash site was approximately 1/4 of a mile from the Long Ridge Road entrance to the property.
The dirt bike operators were 14-year-old and 16-year-old brothers.
Both were transported to Stamford Hospital for treatment.
The 14-year-old died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. The 16-year-old sustained life threatening injuries and is in critical condition.
Initial investigation indicates that the bikes approached each other head-on and collided slightly offset.
Identities have not yet been released.
