GREENWICH, Conn. (WTNH) -- Several buildings in Greenwich were evacuated after a truck crashed into the side of CL&P's office building causing a gas leak Friday.
Shortly after 1 p.m., a truck hit the side of the office building, located at Railroad Ave. and Prospect St.
No one was hurt, but a gas meter was dislodged causing a significant gas leak.
According to police, it was reported that people could smell the odor from as far away as West Putnam Ave.
Upon arrival, police shut down all area traffic, as well as Metro-North train traffic, and evacuated several building adjacent to CL&P.
Within 10 minutes the gas was shut off.
Due to the potential for explosion, the gas company had to go to each building and determine it was safe.
Everyone was allowed to return to their buildings around 3 p.m.
