Victim: Cops MIA for hours after pit bull attack

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Bridgeport woman was sent to the hospital after being attacked by a pit bull in a public park.

She claims police didn't take the call seriously and she waited hours for officers to come help her.

"A pit bull just came charging out of nowhere," said Luz Rosario.

At Beardsley Park in Bridgeport it says all dogs must be leashed.

"I looked down and saw blood," said Luz. "This is the actual puncture wound, and these were wide open."

"I said let me take a look," said Louis Rosario, "and I was like that is pretty bad."

Luz says the pit bull was not on a leash and it attacked her right in front of her 14-year-old son.

"What are you thinking as you are watching your mom getting attacked by the pit bull," asked News 8's Bob Wilson.

"I felt helpless because I couldn't even jump in," said Michael Rosario.

"The ambulance came and ended up taking her away," said Louis, "and I had to wait here for the cops to take the report, and they said they would be right here. And five hours later they came."

The police report shows that police arrived on the scene before 10 o'clock. Louis says he had been waiting in the park for nearly five hours for police while his wife was in the hospital.

"When I got home I found out the cops hadn't even come yet," said Luz.

Now News 8 did go to city hall and contacted the Mayor's aid to see if we could get some answers as to why there was such a long response time between the call and the time the officers arrived. They said since internal affairs has been contacted already they can't comment on the ongoing investigation. All they could say was that there will be a full investigation and they will look into the full complaint.

"I got a tetanus," said Luz, "I got multiple shots in the wound and five rabies shots that day, and then I had to go for number two."

And while the family is waiting for answers from the police investigation, they are also waiting to hear if the pit bull has had rabies shots.

"I have called animal control multiple times, the health department," Luz said, "nobody had gotten back to me as of yet, so I have to continue with my rabies shots up until I find out the paperwork is legitimate."
