GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) -  A Connecticut woman has finished her walk across the state to raise money and awareness about the need for clean water.

Amy Russell, who grew up in Manchester, began her 140-mile walk last Saturday in Granby. She finished Friday night in Greenwich after walking earlier that day in temperatures that soared well over 100 degrees.

The 22-year-old Russell is the founder of an organization called Walk4Water.

Members plan to gather in South Africa in January to begin a two-year, 7,000-mile walk to Egypt. They hope to raise $8 million for wells, filtration systems and other water projects on that continent.

The group also has a 500-mile walk scheduled for August in California.
