NORWALK, Conn. (WTNH) -- Two people were rescued after making a Mayday distress call when their yacht began taking on water in the Long Island Sound Friday.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m., off the eastern end of Cockenoe Island, just off shore in Westport, just over the Norwalk border.
Officials said the yacht has apparently struck a Cockenoe Reef that projects eastward from the island.
Emergency crews began a de-watering operation to keep the yacht from sinking, and attempted to plug the leak unsuccessfully.
Once the yacht was stable, it was towed to Norwalk's Cove Marina.
