FARMINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- Five people were injured in what officials are calling a construction accident at UConn's Health Center in Farmington.

A spokesperson for UConn said that the incident happened at the Research Development Center, which is currently under renovation.

The workers were working on the renovations when ceiling tiles fell on them.

The building is sound and no evacuations occurred.

The spokesperson for the hospital said the incident did not interfere with hospital operations.

"And I want to make clear that it is indeed a laboratory building, not a patient area and this portion of the building, floors four through seven have been off limits for the sole purpose of this renovation so no employees were there at the time. This is simply a construction accident," said Chris DeFrancesco, UConn Health Center.

It happened on the fourth floor of the laboratories. The workers were taken to the hospital's emergency room and were treated for their injuries.

All of the workers had non-life threatening injuries and were released.
