HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The lawyer for a former Windsor Locks police officer who was acquitted on charges he hindered the investigation of his son says his client will now try to get his job back.

Robert Koistinen was found not guilty Wednesday. He had been accused of hindering the probe of an October 2010 crash involving his son, also a police officer. A 15-year-old boy on a bicycle was struck and killed.

The Journal Inquirer reports that defense lawyer Elliot Spector insisted that Robert Koistinen will get his job back.

The Windsor Locks Police Commission fired Koistinen in January. He is appealing the dismissal.

Police Commission Chairman Kevin Brace declined to comment on Wednesday except to say that with the acquittal, officials can now move forward with employment matters.
