West Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) - Police in the Hartford area are cracking down on people who use cell phones while driving.
Hundreds have been pulled over in recent days and just Friday night about 600 tickets were issued in the West Hartford area alone.
" The National Traffic Administration says that driving while talking on the cell phone is the equivalent of a .08 alcohol limit, which is legally drunk," explained Lt. David Duibel of the West Hartford Police Department.
The traffic unit has been out twice a day for the past week stopping motorists and sometimes they have trouble keeping up with the violators. "Some of them just don't care," said Duibel. "I asked one motorist what they learned and her response was not to get caught next time."
Police say they will continue to issue tickets to violators as they intend to have more random crackdowns in the state.
