Birds strike plane heading for Bradley

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WTNH) -- A plane heading to Bradley from Tampa, Florida encountered a a bird strike on Wednesday.

A spokesman said that Southwest Air Flight 2102 was about 20 miles south of Bradley International Airport when the plane struck a flock of birds.

The captain of the plane declared an emergency as the the plan approached the gate. The plane was able to land safely at 2:10 p.m.

Immediately after landing, 125 passengers and the five crew members exited the plane. There were no injuries reported.

The plane has been taken out of service for repairs. There were numerous dents and dings on the aircraft.

The bird strikes were confined to the front end of the plane.
