HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A suspicious metal can found in a Hartford cemetery has been ruled not hazardous by the bomb squad.

Police were called to the Old North Cemetery on Main Street after a suspicious metal can was spotted. Police confirm wires were sticking out of the can.

Police, fire and the bomb squad were called in to investigate and the nearby S.A.N.D Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution, police say.

Experts determined the can was not dangerous. Officers are trying to determine if it was part of an art project going on around the city.

Traffic heading south on Main Street was diverted between Mather and Mahl Streets while officials were on the scene. The road is back open.

No injuries were reported.
