Canton, Conn (WTNH) - Canton firefighters and the Department of Environmental Protection are investigating a gas leak that happened late Friday night into Saturday.

It happened at the Taco Bell / KFC restaurant along Route 44. Police say a 1,000 gallon propane tank was damaged during snow removal around 9:30pm.

Firefighters shut down the road, and shut off water and power to the buildings in the complex. Police evacuated the nearby area, including the Canton Village condominium complex, and seven homes.

Fire officials say there were approximately 500 gallons of propane in the damaged tank, which has since been pumped out. Fire crews remained on the scene through early Saturday to manage vapors and being their investigation.
