BERLIN, Conn. (WTNH) -- CL&P is alerting customers of a door-to-door scam in which two men are posing as CL&P employees and asking to see customer's electric bills.

According to CL&P, the men are identifying themselves as CL&P employees and carrying counterfeit identification badges.

CL&P says they do not conduct such solicitation calls or visits unless they need access to equipment or there is a safety concern.

Additionally, CL&P employees all carry company-issued photo ID's and use vehicles marked with CL&P logo. Also, any electrical contractors working with CL&P carry documentation explaining the nature and location of their work.

CL&P suggests that if a customer receives a call or a visit to their home such as this they hang up the phone or decline the door-to-door offer, and call CL&P directly at 800-286-2000 to confirm any offers.

Customers should also report the incident to local police.
