Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) - A group of Hartford teenagers were selling lemonade today to help raise money for an elderly woman who was robbed at gun point.
The brazen robbery happened at a Hartford ATM happened back on August 8. The 74-year old victim had just taken out $20 when she was approached by the two male suspects. They took her cash as well as a gold chain around her neck.
The kids put up a lemonade stand at the scene of the crime.
"We wanted to show that Hartford is not all bad and this is what we are here for," Asha Follins said. "We have gotten $227.30 from a lemonade stand. Even if they didn't drink the lemonade they were still donating the money. One lady asked how much was taken and she gave a $20 and another man heard us on the radio and came on his motorcycle and brought some money. We had some person from Glastonbury come and support us. It shows that it's not just the Hartford community helping out but all around."
The plan is to take the money to a jewelry store and replace the necklace and then give the rest of the money to the lady to let her know the community cares.
No arrests have been made in the robbery.
