WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut's Department of Motor Vehicles says it working on strengthening requirements for people who train driving instructors.
Commissioner Melody Currey announced the initiative ahead of Connecticut's Teen Safe Driving Week, which begins on Dec. 4.
She said Tuesday that the changes to be proposed to the state legislature are intended to ensure driving instructors are trained by people with enough experience. She said qualifications for a master driving instructor have been interpreted too widely in the past and have not been established by state law.
Under her proposal, someone seeking to be a master driving instructor must have been licensed by a commercial or secondary school for at least five years and pass a master examination.
