Man calls 911 over sandwich dispute

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- "You're calling 911 because you don't like the way they're making your sandwich?" These were the words uttered by a 911 dispatcher after a man called in to complain about a messed-up lunch order.

One customer of the Greatful Deli in East Hartford called 911 Wednesday to complain about his ham and turkey sandwiches.

"He said to do him a favor, make them with a little less meat but lots of cheese and lots of mayonnaise," the deli's owner Tila Azinheira.

It was a usual order for a regular customer, but this time the man thought he should pay less for requesting less meat.

"I said 'Yes, you did, but you also ordered lots of cheese and lots of mayonnaise,'" Azinheira explained.

She thought the problem was solved.

"He walked outside," she said. "Minutes later he came back inside."

As if calling 911 didn't take enough nerve, he used the deli's phone to call authorities.

"Asked to use our business phone, and we let him use it and he dialed 911," Azinheira said. "When he gave us the phone back and we pressed the redial button, and that's what it shows, and it was like, 'Oh no, I can't believe he did that.' And a few minutes later the officers showed up."

Those officers essentially echoed the advice from the 911 dispatcher.

"You're calling 9-1-1 because you don't like the way they're making your sandwich?"

"Exactly," the man replied.

"Then don't buy it!"
