HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A group of private security guards who work at several state agencies based in Hartford are planning to walk off the job in protest.

The guards work for SOS Security Inc. at buildings that house various offices, including the Department of Public Works and the Office of Policy and Management.

They announced last week that about 40 guards will hold a one-day strike on Thursday.

The guards have accused SOS of failing to make pension contributions required by a state contract with the East Parsippany, N.J.-based company and complain of low wages and unaffordable health insurance. They also said the company has used intimidation tactics against them as they've tried to unionize.

SOS has repeatedly declined to comment.
