HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Hundreds of thousands of trout are being loaded onto trucks to stock Connecticut lakes, ponds and rivers ahead of the start of fishing season.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection expects to have more than 378,000 trout stocked throughout the state in time for opening day on April 20.

The trout will be delivered in more than 200 truckloads to be released into 102 lakes and ponds and 200 rivers and streams.

DEEP's Inland Fisheries Division typically begins the trout stocking in late February or early March. Division director Pete Aarrestad says winter storms delayed the schedule a bit this year.
