WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Divers searching the Connecticut River in Wethersfield have recovered the body of a missing swimmer.
The body of Fatbardh Latifi, 33, was found around 11 p.m. Sunday night about 100 yards south of the Putnam Bridge, near where he disappeared.
The search began Sunday afternoon when police got a call from a distraught woman saying her friend jumped off a sailboat into the river to cool off, but never came back up.
Police say four people jumped off the boat to swim in the water. One woman was having difficulty swimming, and while the others were helping her get back into the boat, Latifi disappeared.
Dive teams, search boats, side-scan sonar machines and even a helicopter were called in during the search.
The Connecticut River is known for its strong, unpredictable currents.
