ENFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) - Shoppers have been allowed back into stores at a busy Enfield shopping plaza, after a late morning evacuation.

Fire crews from the Thompsonville Fire Department were called to the State Line Plaza, located on Freshwater Boulevard, after an odor of natural gas was detected there late Friday morning.

Shoppers were allowed to return to the stores around noon, though firefighters remained in the area.

The plaza is one of Enfield's major shopping centers; featuring shops including Dick’s Sporting Goods, PC Richard and Son, Jo Ann Fabrics, and the Home Depot.

There has been an increase in evacuations due to natural gas odors, following a massive natural gas explosion in downtown Springfield back in November.
