Farmington, Conn. (WTNH) - The death of a Hartford man who was pulled from the Farmington River is serving as a reminder about water safety this summer.
Omar Gonzalez, 29, was swimming in the river near Woewassa Lane when he went under Sunday.
Rescue crews found him submerged in about 7 feet of water around 1:30pm. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Todd LeBlanc, of Bristol, says he's been fishing and relaxing on this part Farmington River for about 10 years. LeBlanc also tells News 8 he has never heard of anybody drowning there.
"I just don't know how anyone could drown out here."
The case is highlighting what first responders always stress, about playing it safe while beating the heat.
Police are calling it an accidental drowning.
