Farmington, Conn. (WTNH) - He's been a Congressman, Governor, friend of two Presidents, and a federal prison inmate. Now, former Governor John Rowland is trying his hand at being a radio talk show host.

On Friday, Rowland began a three day stint on WTIC-AM radio in the 9AM to 12Noon time slot. He was joined by Pastor Will Marotti of Meriden who attempted to dispel the notion that Rowland found Jesus while in jail.

"You were attending while Governor, you've been attending ever since, after your governorship, so, you know, that was not a jailhouse conversion," Marotti said.

"When my entire life fell apart, you were there, when I was away at Loretto, a lot of people don't know this, but you came and visited every single month," Rowland responded.

And there was the inevitable question about Rowland's future.

"I know you just said this is temporary, is this a possible career path for you, it worked for Buddy Cianci in Providence," said talk show caller Brian.

"There's a history of people that have been in public life going into TV and radio," Rowland responded. "We're just enjoying these moments and seeing if we're capable. I'll tell ya, it's a lot of work because you really have to study the night before."

But not everyone was as kind.

"With all due respect, Mister Rowland, and I call you Mister Rowland because I think you've lost the honor to be called governor anymore, I really cringe, I forgive but I don't forget," said talk show caller Tim.

Rowland acknowledged today that some people may have tuned in out of morbid curiosity. They'll get another chance on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
