HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Hartford firefighters are busy knocking down a fire on Albany Ave. in the city.
The fire was reported a little after 5:00 a.m. at the former McGregor's Jamerican Restaurant at the corner of Albany Ave/Route 44 and Green St.
Initial reports said flames were shooting through the roof as firefighters arrived.
"On arrival we found fire located in the center of the roof. Fire department personnel conducted an aggressive attack on the fire and it's currently under control after about 40 minutes," said Hartford Fire Chief Edward Casares.
There was no immediate word from firefighters as to how the fire started.
The restaurant has been closed for a few months, neighbors told News 8.
Albany Ave and surrounding side streets were closed so firefighters could get their trucks and hoses in there and knock down the fire.
