MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) - The group raising funds to build a memorial for the eight workers killed in last summer's shootings at a Manchester beer distributor say they are about $18,000 short of their goal.
The memorial, consisting of eight steel pillars, is scheduled to be dedicated on Aug. 3, the anniversary of the shootings at Hartford Distributors.
A company driver, Omar Thornton had just been fired for stealing beer when he killed the eight co-workers, wounded two others and then committed suicide at the Manchester company.
Organizer David Skoczulek tells the Journal Inquirer of Manchester that the memorial project, to be built in a wooded lot on the company's property, will cost about $65,000.
A final fundraiser is scheduled for July 29 at the Adams Mill restaurant.
